Healthcare Principal Associate

Location: Manchester

Salary: £75,000 to £95,000 (depending on experience)

Experience: 5+ years’ PQE (or equivalent)

Our client is looking to hire a Healthcare Principal Associate into a specialist healthcare team in Manchester, focused on defendant clinical negligence work. This is a strong opportunity for someone with NHS Resolution experience who enjoys complex, high-value claims and wants a role with progression, supervision responsibility, and a broader client-facing element.

You will manage litigated and pre-litigated clinical negligence matters, work closely with clients and external stakeholders, and help develop more junior colleagues. The role also includes an expectation of contributing to business development and operational initiatives.

This is a chance to join a busy, specialist healthcare practice covering clinical negligence and wider healthcare advisory work. The team supports flexible working and offers a platform for someone motivated to grow their practice and play a visible role in client delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Managing a caseload of litigated and pre-litigated defendant clinical negligence claims

• Investigating claims thoroughly to support repudiation and/or resolution

• Liaising with claimants, claimant solicitors, clients, counsel and experts

• Obtaining key documentation and instructing experts

• Working to client protocols and completing MI procedures

• Meeting financial and chargeable targets, deadlines and key progress indicators

• Supporting and developing junior lawyers

• Contributing to and leading client-facing initiatives

• Supporting business development and operational activity as expected at Principal Associate level

• Working in line with internal policies and procedures

What We’re Looking For

• Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with 5+ years’ PQE (or equivalent)

• NHS Resolution experience

• Strong defendant clinical negligence experience and genuine interest in the healthcare sector

• Excellent technical ability, including strong working knowledge of the CPR

• Strong communication skills and confident stakeholder management

• Disciplined organisation and time management, with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to investigate and assess evidence rigorously

• Collaborative team approach, with the confidence to take ownership of matters
