Job Description

Tax Law Partner / Legal Director

Location: London

Salary: £140,000 – £180,000 + Equity/Partner Profit Share & C-Suite Backing

Are you an accomplished Tax Partner or Senior Director seeking the backing, strategic authority, and operational freedom to establish and lead a flagship London Tax Practice within a fast-growing national law firm? Our client is a dynamic, commercially minded law firm expanding its London presence and known for doing law differently—putting authentic client relationships and cross-departmental collaboration at the heart of its business. They are seeking an entrepreneurial Tax Partner (8+ PQE) to build out a standalone tax offering across corporate, real estate, private wealth, and contentious tax matters.

The Opportunity

In this high-profile equity-track position, you will take lead responsibility for establishing and heading the firm's London Tax Law practice. Supported directly by C-Suite leadership, senior partners, and a dedicated marketing function, you will deliver sophisticated direct and indirect tax advice to corporate entities, high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and trustees. Designed for a commercially sharp practitioner with an established client network or portable following who wants to escape rigid London big-firm bureaucracy, this role offers direct strategic influence, a lucrative profit distribution model, and full cross-referral support across corporate, property, and private client practice groups.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Qualifications & Experience: Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) or CTA / Chartered Tax Adviser with a minimum of 8+ years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) in corporate, commercial, or private client tax law within a recognized UK or London practice.

  • Practice Building & Client Network: Demonstrable track record of business development, fee generation, and an established network or portable client following to anchor and scale the London practice.

  • Broad Technical Depth: Comprehensive expertise advising across transactional and advisory tax disciplines, including corporate tax structuring, personal tax planning, Inheritance Tax (IHT), Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), VAT, and contentious tax disputes.

  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Strategic capability to support property, corporate, and private client teams on the tax dimensions of complex, high-value London and national transactions.

  • Leadership & Strategy: Leadership mindset to build and mentor a team as the department scales, while actively contributing to the wider firm's collaborative partner group.

Package & Working Structure

  • Competitive Remuneration: £140,000 – £180,000 base compensation per annum (commensurate with PQE, London market standing, and client network) plus attractive Partner profit share / equity distribution options.

  • Agile & Hybrid Structure: Modern hybrid working policy based out of London—built on trust, allowing you to choose the environment where you work best.

  • Comprehensive Healthcare & Benefits: Private Medical Insurance (Vitality), Cash Plan (Medicash), salary sacrifice pension scheme (NEST), and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) extended to family members.

  • Leave & Flexibility: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, your birthday off (increasing with service), and enhanced wellbeing and family-friendly policies.

  • Culture & Perks: Direct C-Suite and Senior Partner access from day one, regular CSR events, seasonal celebrations, referral bonuses, free fruit/drinks, and regular office lunches.
