Lead, Influence and Shape the Future of Audit

Our client, a highly respected and growing accountancy practice in Liverpool, is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to play a pivotal role in developing and leading their audit function. This is a standout opportunity for a commercially minded professional who wants to go beyond technical delivery—taking ownership of client relationships, contributing to business development, and progressing towards Responsible Individual (RI) status in the near term.

The Role: Leadership, Client Ownership and Growth

This position offers a broad and rewarding remit across audit, advisory, and strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing and delivering audit assignments from planning through to completion
  • Acting as the primary contact for a portfolio of SME, owner-managed businesses, professional practices, and not-for-profit clients
  • Leading, mentoring, and line managing a team of 3–4 audit professionals
  • Driving business development activities, including:
    • Supporting tenders and pitches
    • Identifying opportunities within existing client relationships
    • Building your internal and external commercial profile
  • Supporting audit quality control processes and ensuring compliance
  • Undertaking ad hoc projects, including due diligence and resolving complex accounting issues

What We’re Looking For

We are keen to speak with high-calibre candidates who can demonstrate:

  • 5–8+ years’ UK accountancy practice experience, with at least 2 years operating at Manager level
  • Fully qualified ACA or ACCA
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards (UK GAAP / FRS 102)
  • Proven experience managing multiple audit engagements and deadlines
  • Experience working with SMEs, OMBs, and/or not-for-profit organisations
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Commercially aware, with a genuine interest in business development and client growth
  • Experience with SRA Accounts Rules audits desirable but not essential
  • Familiarity with audit software and accounting systems (e.g. CaseWare, CCH, Xero, Sage)
