About the Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Costs Lawyer / Law Costs Draftsman to join a leading Yorkshire law firm with over 20 branches across the region. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing costs team at their prestigious Leeds City Centre head office working on high-quality cases across clinical negligence, personal injury inquests and professional negligence matters.
The Role
- Diverse caseload management: Managing a varied portfolio of cost matters including clinical negligence, personal injury inquest, professional negligence and historic sexual abuse claims.
- Bills of costs drafting: Preparing comprehensive and accurate bills of costs for complex litigation matters to the highest professional standards.
- Settlement negotiations: Negotiating cost settlements with opposing parties and their representatives to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Budget preparation: Preparing detailed cost budgets and managing budget variations throughout the litigation process.
- Points of dispute: Drafting and responding to points of dispute with thorough legal analysis and supporting documentation.
- Defendant housing matters: Managing costs aspects of defendant housing disrepair cases with specialist knowledge of this area.
- Internal and external client support: Working with both internal fee earners and external clients to provide comprehensive costs advice.
- Compliance and procedural rules: Ensuring all work complies with procedural rules, funding requirements and regulatory standards.
- Proactive cost management: Supporting fee earners in managing cost issues proactively throughout case progression.
- Award-winning team collaboration: Working alongside Yorkshire Legal Awards winning Clinical Negligence Inquest and Personal Injury teams.
What We're Looking For
- Qualified Costs Lawyer or experienced Law Costs Draftsman.
- Strong experience in costs drafting, budgeting and negotiations.
- Knowledge of clinical negligence, personal injury and inquest cost matters.
- Understanding of procedural rules and funding requirements.
- Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.
