Location: Exeter area, Devon
Salary: £50,000 to £70,000, depending on experience
Job type: Permanent, full-time
Experience: Ideally 2+ years’ relevant post-qualification experience
Sector: UK Legal Practice

The Opportunity

An established Devon law firm is seeking a Property Litigation Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join its Dispute Resolution team.

You will manage a varied caseload of residential and commercial Property disputes, advising clients from initial instruction through negotiation, settlement and, where required, litigation.

The role would suit a commercially aware Property Litigator who can manage matters with appropriate autonomy, provide clear and practical advice, and build strong client relationships.

Experience across wider Civil or Commercial Litigation would be advantageous.

The Role

Your caseload may include:

  • Commercial and residential landlord and tenant disputes
  • Lease renewals, termination and possession proceedings
  • Rent and service-charge recovery
  • Dilapidations
  • Rights of way and easement disputes
  • Restrictive covenants
  • Boundary and neighbour disputes
  • Adverse possession
  • Co-ownership and Trusts of Land matters
  • Leasehold disputes
  • Title and registration issues
  • Property-related professional negligence
  • Injunctions and enforcement proceedings

You will manage matters from initial instruction through to resolution, including drafting pleadings and witness statements, handling disclosure, instructing Counsel and experts, negotiating settlements and preparing cases for hearings.

The precise caseload will reflect your experience and the needs of the department.

About You

You should ideally have:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor in England and Wales or Chartered Legal Executive
  • Recent Property Litigation experience within a UK Legal Practice
  • Experience managing a contentious Property caseload
  • Good knowledge of civil procedure and litigation strategy
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and evidence-analysis skills
  • The ability to manage matters with appropriate autonomy
  • Confidence communicating with clients, Counsel, experts and other professionals
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail
  • A practical, commercially aware and client-focused approach
  • An interest in developing client and professional-referrer relationships

Applications may also be considered from candidates outside the preferred PQE range where they offer relevant Property Litigation experience.

Salary and Benefits

The opportunity offers:

  • £50,000 to £70,000, depending on PQE, caseload experience and technical capability
  • A varied residential and commercial Property Litigation caseload
  • Direct client responsibility
  • Autonomy appropriate to experience
  • Support from an established Dispute Resolution team
  • Exposure to wider Civil and Commercial Litigation
  • Opportunities to contribute to networking and departmental growth
  • Scope to support junior colleagues
  • Long-term career development within an established Devon Legal Practice

Candidates offering substantial experience, leadership capability or an established regional network may justify consideration towards the upper end of the range.

The complete benefits package and working arrangements will be confirmed during the recruitment process.

Location

The role is based in the Exeter area.

Applications are welcomed from Property Litigation professionals already based in Devon and the South West, as well as candidates considering relocation.
