Location: Croydon | Specialist Boutique Firm
Are you a family law solicitor looking for genuine depth of work, real mentorship, and the chance to build your career inside a firm that does nothing but family law?
Our client is a well-regarded, exclusively family law firm with offices in the Croydon area and South West London. They act for clients across London, the South East, and nationally — handling everything from straightforward divorce proceedings to high-net-worth financial remedy cases and complex international matters.
This is a genuine opportunity to join a close-knit, experienced team where you will be exposed to a broad and interesting caseload from day one. The firm operates with a client-first, compassionate ethos and has a strong reputation built over decades in this specialist area. If you are looking for somewhere that will invest in your development as a family lawyer, not just your billing, this firm is worth a conversation.
What You Will Be Doing
You will manage your own caseload of privately funded family law matters with appropriate supervision and support. The breadth of work available includes:
- Divorce and separation — advising on the legal process, drafting petitions, and managing proceedings to conclusion
- Financial remedy — including consent orders, contested ancillary relief proceedings, maintenance applications, and enforcement
- Children matters — child arrangements orders, specific issue and prohibited steps orders, relocation applications (domestic and international)
- Pre- and post-nuptial agreements — advising and drafting for high-net-worth and general client bases
- Domestic abuse and non-molestation orders — Family Law Act 1996 applications
- International and cross-border family matters — supporting the senior team on cases involving overseas elements
- Cohabitee and property disputes — advising separating couples on TLATA and Schedule 1 Children Act matters
You will attend court hearings, conduct client meetings, manage correspondence, and work closely with a senior solicitor who will provide structured supervision and mentoring.
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- Qualified Solicitor (England and Wales) — NQ to 3 years PQE welcome
- Demonstrable family law experience — either via a qualifying seat or post-qualification practice; prior experience in a family law department is essential
- Solid working knowledge of financial remedy proceedings, children law, and divorce procedure
- Strong drafting skills — able to produce clear, accurate correspondence, court documents, and agreements
- Ability to manage your own files with supervision — organised, proactive, and client-focused
- Excellent communication skills — written and verbal; able to advise clients with sensitivity and clarity
- Right to work in the United Kingdom without restriction
Desirable (not essential):
- Resolution membership or working towards it
- Experience of court advocacy at FDR, First Hearing, or other family court hearings
- Exposure to high-net-worth or complex financial remedy cases
- Interest in mediation or collaborative law as part of longer-term development
What Is On Offer
- Salary: £38,000 – £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience and PQE level
- Hybrid working — the firm operates flexibly; the expectation is primarily office-based with arrangement for remote days where workload allows
- 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Genuine career progression — the firm is growing and actively supports junior fee-earners in developing towards seniority; no glass ceiling for those who perform
- Structured mentoring — direct access to a senior solicitor with an exceptional depth of family law experience spanning high-value and complex cases
- Broad, interesting caseload — exposure to the full spectrum of family law from your first day, not a narrow or admin-heavy role
- Supportive, collegiate culture — a small, specialist team where your contribution is visible and valued
- Pension contribution in line with statutory requirements
- Professional development — support for CPD, Resolution membership, and relevant training
Working Arrangements
The role is based at the firm's Croydon office. The Croydon area is well-connected by train and tram, with links to Central London, East Croydon mainline station, and Tramlink services across South London. Parking is available locally.
