Professional Support Lawyer (Employment)

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £65,000 to £85,000 (depending on experience)

Experience: Experienced Employment lawyer (PSL / know-how focus)

Our client is looking to hire a Professional Support Lawyer into a market-leading Employment, Pensions and Immigration team, based in Birmingham. This role is closely aligned to a fixed-fee employment and HR support offering for employers and is ideal for an employment lawyer who enjoys know-how, drafting, training and improving how a team delivers advice.

It is a great option if you want to stay close to live employment law and client needs, while focusing more on content, tools, training and continuous improvement than day-to-day fee earning.

You will sit at the centre of the employment practice, helping keep content accurate, practical and up to date. You will work with colleagues across the team and contribute to product, innovation and business change initiatives, with a modest financial target through limited legal work and training delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Updating the employment and HR support website with legal developments to keep client content current and accurate

• Updating and maintaining an employment document and precedent library with minimal supervision

• Writing and editing guidance notes, precedents, checklists and practical tools for employment lawyers

• Creating and maintaining best practice guides and knowledge resources

• Developing client-facing tools and training programmes to improve service delivery

• Delivering training to colleagues and, where appropriate, to clients

• Tracking employment law trends and producing current awareness updates

• Proactively identifying ways to improve efficiency, consistency and quality across the team

• Contributing ideas to product, innovation and business change, including how technology can support delivery

• Supporting a range of projects as required, including limited legal work to meet a modest financial target

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as an Employment lawyer, able to work with minimal supervision

• Strong drafting, research and communication skills, with excellent attention to detail

• Comfortable writing about and presenting on legal developments, including case law, legislation and procedural change

• Confident trainer who enjoys sharing knowledge and improving how teams work

• Pragmatic, commercial approach to problem-solving

• Strong organisation and time management, with the ability to juggle competing priorities

• Good IT skills and a proactive, improvement-focused mindset

• Collaborative style and the ability to work well with a wide range of stakeholders
