It has evolved into a c.£20m turnover international business with operations across multiple continents, producing a premium, specialist product that is integral to some of the world's most iconic brands. The leadership team is ambitious and focused on continued growth.
The company has consistently grown at around 10% per year, is debt-free, has a strong cash position, and a clear vision for future growth. Significant investments have been made in its manufacturing base, expanding capacity and modernising operations. However, the business lacks the financial leadership necessary to match its ambitions. This includes the need for improved reporting, strategy, systems, and a senior presence that aligns with its growth stage.
The Finance Director Job
This is a full-time, site-based Finance Director role. You will report directly to the MD and Chairman and will be the most senior person on-site. Your responsibilities will include:
- Owning the financial agenda entirely, including building reporting, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities, developing a financial strategy for capital deployment, and working closely with the MD to evaluate and pursue growth opportunities.
- Being a genuine presence across the entire operation, understanding what is happening in the business, and being a trusted voice in decision-making.
- Providing strategic planning and advice, optimising finances across the group, shaping business goals, and translating these into financial strategies.
- Implementing, developing, and overseeing all financial operations, accounts, audits, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management to drive profitability and strengthen internal controls.
- Implementing a costing framework for product-level margins to aid pricing decisions and contract assessments.
- Developing and leading a small finance team that has lacked financial leadership.
- Reviewing current ERP systems and leading the implementation or development of more effective solutions as required.
The Finance Director Job Requirements
You should already be a Finance Director with experience in a manufacturing business. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Clear, relatable experience in developing financial strategies, acting as an advisor to owners, and implementing systems.
- Commercial sharpness, with the ability to interpret numbers and provide actionable insights.
- A fully qualified chartered accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA); QBE will not be considered.
- Comfort in both boardroom settings and on the factory floor, with the ability to challenge experienced sales leaders and build trust within the team.
This is a long-standing family business with deep roots and a loyal workforce. The right candidate will respect the culture and bring energy and rigour to move it forward.
Benefits and Opportunity
The salary for this position starts at £100,000 and is negotiable based on experience. It includes a bonus, 11% pension, enhanced holidays, and an early Friday finish.
