Chorley Full-Time No working from home possible

We're working with a long-established, multi-site large business based near Chorley with sites across the UK, built up over decades of steady, deliberate growth and acquisitions. The business has a reputation for close, hands-on relationships with all stakeholders internal and externally, and a finance team that sits right at the centre of how the operation is controlled. It's a stable, profitable, well-run business and finance is a genuine, valued part of how it operates. This Accounts Assistant Job is available because the person who held it before was recently promoted into the management accounts team, a true reflection of what this business does with people for those who show promise and work hard.

The Accounts Assistant Job

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working in a team of 4 Accounts Assistants, this Accounts Assistant job is a genuinely varied role, covering everything from supplier reconciliations through to site reporting and month-end control work. A huge part of your job will be checking high volume supplier invoices against what's been ordered and delivered on site, working through pricing queries, and calculating sales invoices before passing to credit control to raise. You'll also reconcile each site's bank account weekly, flagging any anomalies that don't add up and speaking with the sites directly. You will support payroll processing but only on a small scale, checking timesheets for data-entry errors and gaps before they go to payroll, then produce weekly management reporting on how each site has performed against budget. You'll also support the management accounts team, with your own set of month end tasks such as recurring accruals and prepayments, reconciliation of balance sheet control accounts plus cover for colleagues when they're away.

In this Accounts Assistant Job, you will have a clear weekly and monthly rhythm to it: enough structure that you'll find your feet quickly, and enough substance that you won't be short of things to get your teeth into.

The Requirements

  • The accounts processing team includes 2 members earlier on in their careers that you will work closely with who will need some guidance on general daily tasks in a working environment (not essentially finance related), so the successful person in this position must have some solid working experience, ideally in a finance role but at least in a position with transferable skills with an interest to work in finance and a numerate mindset.
  • You must be able to show how you perform in a working environment: confident enough to ask questions; enough experience to have developed strong initiative; and can spot things and question them when they don’t make sense.
  • It is important that you have a strong work ethic, resilient in nature with some maturity about your actions, the company is looking for someone who can show some form of loyalty and commitment in their education or working life.
  • You must have good exposure to excel, as the role is low value high volume transactional interaction, and the business relies on excel heavily with the reconciliations.
  • You must be someone who is able to work on your own and in a team, everyone has their role within the team, and they all link together, being able to work through your own task load well will have a direct positive impact on the rest of the team.
  • Finally, it is essential you want to work in a finance team long term, progression is available, but not a necessity – if you want to progress it will be available but if you don’t, you can remain in your role and become the master of it. Either way there is plenty of scope to build a long-term career with the business.

The Rewards

This business and Accounts Assistant job comes with security in abundance, they have reported record upon record months for growth in all areas, with no sign of that slowing down. It is a large finance team, people tend to stay and build long careers, and it's not unusual to move up through the function.

Salary will be circa £30,000 depending on experience. Holidays are rising up to 26 days a year, with a company pension scheme, a 5% employer contribution, and life assurance cover.

Beyond the contractual package, there's lots of company and team related events that build into their culture including regular breakfasts and dress down days.
