Hawkwood is excited to be partnering with one of the most exciting companies in generative AI to hire a Senior HR Business Partner (Director) to work directly with the CTO. My client is building cutting-edge AI helping to deploy intelligent systems that transform how work gets done. Think frontier technology, world-class talent, and a career defining mission centred around scaling intelligence.

They are growing rapidly and are now at a critical inflection point, where the quality of leadership and people practices will define what comes next. This is not a traditional HRBP (Director) role. You’ll sit at the heart of a highly technical organisation, partnering closely with CTO and senior leadership across a rapidly scaling function. You’ll be operating as a true thought partner, helping shape how the business builds, develops, and leads its talent as it is set to double its headcount this year. You’ll have the opportunity to genuinely shape the future of the team and their success!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Partner closely with CTO and senior leaders on organisational design, talent strategy and team effectiveness
  • Coach and challenge leaders to raise the bar on management capability and performance
  • Own and shape key people processes including performance, compensation and organisational planning
  • Build scalable approaches that work today and still make sense as the business scales at pace. Ideally, experience bringing an organisation through a significant growth phase.
  • Navigate complexity and ambiguity, bringing clarity and structure where it’s needed most
  • Act as a trusted advisor in a high calibre environment

You’ll be supporting a deeply technical organisation made up of world-class researchers and engineers in an environment that is still being built. There are frameworks, but they are intentionally loose so you’ll need to be excited in shaping, adapting and improving the playbook!

What they’re looking for:

  • Established experience as a senior HR Business Partner or People Director in high-growth environments with recent experience partnering a CTO or Senior Technology Leaders.
  • Experience operating at pace in scale ups, ideally alongside engineering or product organisations
  • Strong judgement and the ability to operate without heavy structure or process
  • Credibility with senior stakeholders and the confidence to challenge where needed
  • A balance of strategic thinking and hands on delivery
  • Experience in complex and slightly chaotic environments where you’ve had to build and influence
