Hawkins Steel Ltd provides a complete range of fabrication services to a multitude of clientele, offering bespoke fabrication solutions no matter the size, shape or complexity. The in‑house drawing office provides 3D modelling, general arrangement drawings, rendered images, fabrication drawings and can arrange site visits to confirm all site dimensions and levels. The main purpose of this role is to produce clear and accurate drawings in Tekla Structures in accordance with customer requirements. The Tekla Detailer will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of high‑quality detailing outputs. Reporting to Drawing Office Manager.

Key Responsibilities
- Create high‑quality detailed technical drawings and 3D models of structural elements based on designs supplied by architects and clients and modifications to existing drawings.
- Provide excellent technical support and drawing office service to Hawkins Steel Ltd.
- Ensure drawings are compliant with appropriate regulations and building standards.
- Manage workload efficiently, ensuring that all required information is available to undertake the brief during the allocated time.
- Perform any other duties as required by the Drawing Office Manager.
Duties and Tasks
- Liaise with architects, engineers and clients to understand their design requirements and provide technical advice to construction teams.
- Generate high‑quality detailed fabrication and erection drawings, including plans, sections, and connection details.
- Produce bills of materials (BOM), CNC data, and reports directly from the Tekla model.
- Ensure that regulations and building standards are consistently checked and applied.
- Apply knowledge of materials and engineering principles to check feasibility of manufacture and construction of the product.
- Coordinate with engineers, CM’s and fabricators to resolve detailing issues and queries.
- Support site visits and surveys when required.
- Work from point cloud and site survey data obtained by Hawkins.
- Ensure that all required documents and drawings are up to date, saved and stored in line with the company’s procedure.
- Present working drawings for use in all stages of the project, tender, manufacture/construction and installation.
- Assist in implementing company drafting standards and best practices.
- Work with the Contract Managers and other key stakeholders to ensure that drawings are produced within the project deadlines.
Person Specification
- Steel detailing experience and proficiency in Tekla Structures software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
- Experience in creating shop and erection drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel.
- Good knowledge of building standards.
- 3D modelling experience.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Ability to produce GA’s assembly and part drawings.
- Ability to raise and interpret RFIs.
- Excellent attention to detail, able to work accurately at pace.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workloads.
- Proven ability in problem solving.
- Travel will be required; a full UK driving licence is advantageous.
- Three to five years’ experience as a steel detailing technician or similar role.
