Our Nursing program seeks a full‑time, nine‑month faculty member to deliver high‑quality Nursing instruction through various methods, labs, and clinical rotations at Hawkeye Community College.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares daily instructional plans and materials.
  • Employs various instructional modalities, methods, and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives and assessing student progress on a regular basis.
  • Formulates and maintains curriculum for assigned courses.
  • Supervises, recruits, and advises students.
  • Maintains positive relationships with faculty, students, and the community.
  • Offers a safe and supportive learning environment while encouraging learning and problem solving.
  • Participates in campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Regular on‑campus attendance is considered an essential function of the position unless otherwise approved.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with progression toward a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of three years of recent practical nursing work experience.
  • Registered Nurse with a current, unencumbered license in Iowa or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Familiarity with the role of preceptor for nursing students.
  • Knowledge of educational theory and instructional techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to use motivational skills and engage students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Professional and personable interaction with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or higher.
  • Minimum of two years serving as a preceptor or faculty member.
  • Specialty experience in areas such as mental health, ER, OR, or medical‑surgical nursing.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, ACLS, PALS, and Mandatory Reporter certifications.
  • Community college teaching experience.

Working Conditions

Anticipated schedule includes teaching approximately five classes per week. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, face‑to‑face, online, or hybrid instruction. Work is performed in a combination of office and classroom settings using technology. The role requires good hand‑eye coordination, visual acuity for keyboard use and technical reading, dexterity, and the ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move frequently. Interaction with students, faculty, and staff occurs in person, by telephone, and via computer.

Employment Status

Full‑time, nine‑month faculty position beginning in August 2026.

Compensation and Benefits

Beginning salaries are determined by education and experience under the Hawkeye Professional Educators’ Association Master Agreement. The 2026/2027 faculty pay structure consists of 20 steps, ranging from $52,017 to $68,754. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life, LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; holiday, personal, and sick leave; tuition reimbursement/remission; and choice of retirement programs (IPERS or TIAA).
