Transport Planner / Supervisor
Salary: £30,000 per annum
Wakefield, West Yorkshire. WF5
Hours: Monday–Friday, 10:00am–7:00pm (40 hours per week)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner / Supervisor to join a busy and successful distribution operation in Ossett. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with transport planning or supervisory experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and taking responsibility for efficient, safe, and customer-focused transport operations.
Working closely with drivers, customers, and the wider transport team, you will be responsible for planning delivery routes, supporting driver performance, maintaining compliance standards, and ensuring the smooth running of daily transport activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and review delivery routes to maximise vehicle utilisation, efficiency, and fuel performance
- Supervise and support a team of drivers within a busy delivery operation
- Allocate resources effectively and respond to changes in delivery requirements
- Monitor transport compliance, health and safety standards, and driver performance
- Ensure drivers operate within current legislation and company procedures
- Coach and provide feedback to drivers to maintain high standards and improve performance
- Ensure vehicle inspections, maintenance requirements, and operator licence obligations are met
- Respond quickly and effectively to operational issues including vehicle breakdowns, delays, and service challenges
- Complete investigations, return-to-work interviews, and support performance management processes where required
- Monitor operational costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
About You
We are looking for a motivated transport professional with experience in a Transport Planner, Transport Supervisor, or similar logistics role.
You will ideally have:
- Experience planning routes and coordinating transport operations
- Experience supervising drivers or supporting a transport team
- Good knowledge of transport legislation, compliance, and best practice
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- The ability to make quick, logical decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Confidence using computer systems and transport management software
A HGV driving licence and Driver CPC qualification would be advantageous but are not essential.
