About the role
Hawk Training is looking for an ambitious, proactive and results-driven Business Development Manager to join our Business Development team, with a particular focus on growing our Early Years employer partnerships.
This is a high-activity, new-business-focused role for someone who thrives on prospecting, building relationships and converting opportunities into long-term employer partnerships.
Approximately 80% of your time will be focused on generating new business, identifying prospective employers and developing a strong sales pipeline, with the remaining 20% focused on maintaining and growing relationships with existing clients.
You will take ownership of the sales cycle from initial prospecting and outreach through to proposal, negotiation and contract closure, working closely with colleagues across Hawk Training to ensure employers receive an excellent experience.
What you'll be doing
- Proactively identify and engage prospective employers across targeted geographical areas and sectors.
- Maintain a consistent, high level of outbound sales activity through telephone, email, LinkedIn and networking.
- Make a minimum of 50 outbound calls per day, supported by targeted email and LinkedIn activity.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of qualified new-business opportunities from initial contact through to contract closure.
- Secure new employer partnerships and generate apprenticeship learner starts.
- Research prospective clients, market trends, competitor activity and emerging growth opportunities.
- Prepare and deliver compelling, tailored proposals and presentations that clearly communicate Hawk Training's apprenticeship and Academy solutions.
- Build strong relationships with decision-makers and key stakeholders, understanding their workforce development and training needs.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell and upsell services to existing employer partners.
- Support client retention and contract renewals alongside the Account Management team.
- Ensure a professional handover of newly secured clients to the relevant Account Manager.
- Attend and present at relevant industry events to build your professional network and increase awareness of Hawk Training.
- Collaborate with Marketing on campaigns designed to engage prospective employers and generate new opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of calls, meetings, opportunities and pipeline activity using HubSpot, with prospecting supported by tools such as Lusha.
What success looks like
This is a target-driven role with clear measures of success. You will be expected to work towards:
- Booking at least 10 qualified employer meetings/calls per week.
- Generating 20-25 apprenticeship learner starts per month, or the agreed monthly target.
- Achieving agreed commercial sales targets.
- Maintaining a strong proposal-to-contract conversion rate.
- Delivering consistently high levels of employer satisfaction.
About you
We're looking for an experienced business development professional who is comfortable working in a proactive, outbound sales environment and can demonstrate a strong track record of delivering against targets.
You'll ideally bring:
- A proven track record of exceeding sales targets.
- Experience managing the full sales cycle, from prospecting through to close.
- Strong prospecting, negotiation, influencing and closing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence using CRM and prospecting systems such as HubSpot and Lusha, or similar platforms.
- Strong relationship-management and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- A commercially focused, analytical approach and the ability to identify growth opportunities.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a remote environment.
- A self-motivated, resilient and results-driven approach.
Experience within Further Education, apprenticeships, Early Years, funded training or commercial learning and development would be highly advantageous. Knowledge of the Apprenticeship Levy, apprenticeship standards, funding rules and relevant compliance requirements would also be beneficial.
