About The Business

We are a highly respected independent garage in central Haywards Heath that has been a trusted local fixture for over 75 years. We perfectly balance traditional mechanical craftsmanship with modern automotive technology, completely rejecting the frantic, high-stress environment of corporate dealerships and high-volume fast-fit centres. We know how demanding workshop roles can be, which is why we actively prioritize your well-being—offering a structured, sensible pace of work with a down-to‑earth team that genuinely values your technical integrity.

The Perks

  • £35k - £42k Stable Base: A strong, dependable basic salary package fully open and negotiable based on your current experience.
  • Time & A Half Overtime: Boost your take-home earnings with highly lucrative, optional overtime shifts.
  • Reclaim Your Weekends: Focused entirely on a healthy work-life balance with a strict Monday to Friday schedule—no Saturdays or Sundays ever.

Why This Position Is Different

  • Pace Over Pressure: Say goodbye to the relentless pressure of corporate workshops, unrealistic flat‑rate timing targets, and being treated like a number. We value precision, safety, and fixed‑right‑first‑time repairs over rushing vehicles through the doors.
  • A "Forever" Career: We boast incredible staff retention because we treat our team like family. You’ll be a valued name in a clean, organized, RMI‑approved workspace, not a statistic on a corporate spreadsheet.
  • Diverse & Multi-Brand Work: Say goodbye to single‑brand monotony. You'll work on an engaging mix of different makes and models, carrying out everything from routine maintenance to intermediate mechanical repairs, keeping your days fast‑moving and varied.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Carrying out routine vehicle servicing, comprehensive maintenance, and multi‑point safety inspections to high standards.
  • Handling core mechanical repairs, including brakes, steering, suspension components, and major belt changes.
  • Utilizing modern workshop diagnostic equipment to perform routine vehicle health checks and minor electrical fault‑finding.
  • Collaborating clearly with the front‑of‑house service team to explain required repairs and safety recommendations.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and professional workshop environment.

Are You The One? (Requirements)

  • Qualifications: Level 2 or Level 3 qualified in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent portfolio of workshop experience).
  • Experience: A proven track record working as a Vehicle Technician or Service Mechanic inside a professional workshop or independent garage.
  • Mindset: A reliable, honest professional with high standards of workmanship and a great team‑player attitude.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence. An active MOT licence is a bonus, but absolutely not essential for this role.
