A well-established, family-run service center in Northampton is recruiting a capable Vehicle Technician to join their experienced repair team. Known locally for straightforward customer service and handling a diverse range of vehicle makes and models, this garage offers a supportive, steady environment where practical mechanical skill is genuinely valued.

  • Salary Range: £35,000 – £45,000 basic per annum (DOE) + team performance incentive (An active MOT Tester licence is a great bonus and pushes your starting rate to the top end of the band!)
  • Working Schedule: Monday to Friday schedule (alongside Saturdays on a balanced rota)

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Perform core mechanical repairs, including timing chains/belts, clutch kits, engine overhauls, and gearbox replacements
  • Use multi-brand diagnostic tools to isolate and repair mechanical and electrical faults accurately
  • Complete routine servicing, safety inspections, brake/suspension overhauls, and pre-MOT health checks
  • Write clear technical notes on job sheets and update front-desk staff on job timelines
  • Keep working bays tidy, organized, and compliant with standard health and safety guidelines

What We Need From You

  • Technical Experience: Time-served mechanic with solid confidence in heavy mechanical work and diagnostic fault-finding
  • Qualifications: Level 3 NVQ / IMI in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent time-served garage background)
  • MOT Status: MOT Smart Card / active MOT Tester licence is preferred (with higher pay potential), but not essential to apply
  • Mindset: Practical, detail-oriented technician focused on clean workmanship and right-first-time fixes
  • Requirements: Full UK Driving Licence
