Hardware Lead – Growth Sports

Contract: Full-Time

Location: You’ll spend time in our Basingstoke office (approximately 70% of the time) but would also be expected to travel to operational events within the UK (approximately 30% of the time although this is flexible depending on business need)

Salary: ÂŁ31,440-ÂŁ35,900 base annual salary, plus benefits

As the Hardware Lead for Growth Sports at Hawk-Eye Innovations, you will join one of the world\’s most innovative sports technology businesses. You will play a vital role as we embark on an ambitious growth journey with the ultimate goal of “Pioneering & Inspiring Change in Sport.” We have been innovating since 2001, challenging conventions to deliver solutions that make sport fairer, safer, more engaging and better informed.

Reporting to our Tech Manager, your wide-ranging role will see you collaborating in order to create strategic growth of current and future growth sports for Hawk-Eye, examples of such sports are Motor Racing, Horse Racing, Golf, Boxing, and Swimming.

The Hardware Lead is the first point of call for hardware topics in Growth Sports.

Overseeing our hardware assets and office space, they serve as a critical resource to ensure equipment is in the best possible condition and equipment-related practices are at the highest standard. They also play a key role when it comes to the integration of our delivery with various other parties in the business, such as the hardware team, logistics, tech ops, and Sony site management. Aware of current and past solutions, they support on-site hardware issues while also exploring future Growth Sports solutions and efficiencies wherever there are opportunities. The role requires an individual with strong organisational skills and a learning mindset, eager to advance their understanding of current and prospective solutions in and beyond the department.

Responsibilities

Kit Management, Maintenance & Builds

  • Full ownership of departmental stock management

  • Management, policing, and optimisation of the quirks process across all Growth Sports deliveries

  • Delegation and scheduling as per quirks’ requirements

  • Investigating negative trends, proposing new processes/solutions and communicating these out to the wider team

  • Independent preparation, resource scheduling, and management of build periods

  • Detailed review of build processes and proposal of future changes

  • Independent preparation of procurement & indicative costing sheets as per business need for Tech/Project Managers to review

  • Understand hardware processes, including RMA, Procurement, Crosscheck and Quirks, ensuring that Growth Sports is aligned appropriately.

  • Manage return/supply of company-issued operator hardware (i.e. laptops, DSLRs)

Office Management & Logistics

  • Full ownership of space management through communication with Sony facilities and the hardware team

  • Full ownership and oversight of asset management systems used in Growth & the wider business

  • Full ownership of kit movements in correspondence with Operations Management, Logistics, and freight agencies

  • Investigation & reporting of cost savings through optimised kit movements

  • Projection of hardware demands across the season

Standards & Leadership

  • Setting the precedent in the department best practises for on-site kit use, office space etiquette, and reporting on kit-related matters

  • Regular updates to the team on trends, changes & opportunities related to hardware

  • Hardware updates on operationally critical items

  • Providing remote support on hardware-related issues

Development & System Design

  • Support testing of new hardware, such as benchmarking PCs, recommending specs (GPU/CPU) & choice of camera/lenses

  • Proactive mindset to identify deficiencies and propose new solutions

  • Spearhead communication with HEI hardware team and Tech Ops on new solutions, along with the Tech Manager

  • Hardware design and preparation as per new business demands

  • Exploration and reporting of system efficiencies and improvements

  • Help identify weaknesses in current systems/hardware and work with relevant areas to improve this

  • Support system design for new markets and solutions

Operations

  • Operational delivery as per business needs

  • Utilisation of on-site time to set the standard on all things hardware-related and implement new solutions where applicable

What We Need From You

  • Good depth of knowledge on broadcast/networking hardware and system setup used in Growth Sports

  • Keen interest in improving your understanding of all things hardware and resource management

  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various parts of the business, as well as external stakeholders

  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and delegation skills

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to working, use of initiative, and willingness to take ownership of tasks/projects

  • Excellent problem-solving, prioritisation and analytical skills

  • Demonstrate high-level leadership and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Proactively identify prospective hardware improvements and test possible solutions

  • Strong drive to seek out opportunities to improve understanding of Growth Sports technology, as well as company-wide products and services

  • Ability to oversee various responsibilities at the same time and ensure standards are maintained

  • Capable of working to tight deadlines for service delivery

  • High degree of autonomy in setting out personal and hardware-related departmental objectives

  • Confident to helm conversations with the HEI Hardware and Tech Ops team to advance the Growth Sports products

  • Set the standard for the wider team on hardware-related tasks and general conduct
