About the Role
We’re looking for a Data Test Automation Engineer to join our QA team, focusing on improving how we test and validate large volumes of tracking data across multiple sports. This role sits within a modern, cloud-based data environment, where data quality really matters. You’ll be working on building and evolving automation frameworks that validate data pipelines, APIs and datasets, helping ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data that powers our technology. You’ll start by focusing on building out a framework for core data validation checks, initially within one sport, with the goal of scaling that approach across others. Over time, the role will grow into more advanced areas such as data contract testing and working closely with downstream teams. You won’t be expected to know everything from day one. You’ll work alongside experienced QA engineers and developers, and you’ll get hands‑on with both manual and automated testing as you build confidence in our systems, data and workflows. Being UK‑based helps in this role, as many of our sports and teams are here. There will be opportunities to collaborate in person, whiteboard ideas, and build a strong understanding of how our data flows end to end.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building and maintaining automation frameworks focused on data validation
- Testing data pipelines, APIs and datasets to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Working closely with engineers building Java/Spring Boot microservices
- Supporting testing across AWS data platforms (S3, Glue, Athena)
- Integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Creating and managing synthetic test data to improve coverage
- Identifying gaps in current testing approaches and suggesting improvements
- Contributing to data quality metrics and validation strategies
- Helping teams adopt best practices in data testing
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Experience with data testing and validation using Python (Pandas) and SQL
- Experience contributing to or building automation frameworks (e.g. Pytest, Postman)
- Understanding of APIs and backend or microservice architectures
- Familiarity with AWS data services such as S3, Glue or Athena
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive mindset
Nice to have:
- Exposure to tools like Great Expectations or similar
- Understanding of data quality principles and validation strategies
