Are you an experienced Manual Machinist or Toolroom Machinist with a strong background in traditional machining? We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business in Worcester that is looking for a technically minded machinist to join its production team. We are particularly interested in candidates who have come from a traditional toolroom, manual machining, precision engineering or general engineering environment and are confident working with manual lathes, mills, drills and associated workshop machinery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinist who enjoys being given an engineering drawing or requirement, working out the best way to manufacture the component and using their own experience and initiative to get the job done.

The Role

As Manual Machinist / Toolroom Machinist, you will be responsible for producing accurate components using a range of conventional machining equipment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating manual lathes, milling machines, drills, grinders and associated workshop equipment
  • Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings
  • Working accurately to specified tolerances and surface finishes
  • Planning the most effective sequence of machining operations
  • Selecting appropriate tooling, cutting speeds and feeds
  • Producing one-off and small-batch components
  • Using micrometers, verniers, callipers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment
  • Inspecting your own work to ensure components meet required specifications
  • Identifying practical solutions to machining and manufacturing challenges
  • Carrying out basic machine maintenance
  • Supporting continuous improvement, 5S, quality and health & safety initiatives

What We're Looking For

We are particularly keen to speak with candidates who have previous experience as a:

  • Manual Machinist
  • Toolroom Machinist
  • Toolmaker
  • Manual Turner
  • Manual Miller
  • Centre Lathe Turner
  • Conventional Machinist
  • Precision Machinist
  • Toolroom Engineer

You should have:

  • Previous experience operating conventional/manual machining equipment
  • Strong manual lathe experience
  • Experience of milling, drilling and other traditional machining processes
  • The ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings
  • A good understanding of tolerances and precision measurement
  • Experience using measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers and gauges
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work independently and decide the best approach to a job
  • A high level of attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
  • Previous toolroom experience would be particularly advantageous.

Some CNC knowledge or experience would be beneficial, but this vacancy is primarily focused on traditional/manual machining skills rather than CNC production machining.

The Opportunity

This is a permanent opportunity with an established and growing engineering business that places a strong emphasis on quality. You'll be joining a supportive manufacturing environment where your experience, technical knowledge and ability to solve problems will be genuinely valued.
