A new apprenticeship academy is being launched in Blackburn, specialising in Engineering apprenticeships and the development of future engineering and process technicians. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Engineering Apprenticeship Trainer/Assessor to support, assess and develop apprentices in a positive, engaging and compliant learning environment. The trainer will be responsible for delivering high‑quality teaching and assessment in line with apprenticeship standards, working closely with internal teams and external awarding bodies. Full support and ongoing training will be provided, with integration into an established network of assessors and trainers.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engineering knowledge, skills and behaviours training for Levels 2 and 3 in line with apprenticeship standards.
  • Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, teaching resources and learning materials.
  • Coach, mentor and support learners to ensure high levels of engagement and progression.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that supports equality, diversity and inclusion, including learners with additional needs.
  • Conduct initial assessments, including Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), to tailor learning pathways.
  • Monitor learner progress through regular reviews, assessments and feedback sessions.
  • Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and safe working practices at all times.
  • Support apprentices with functional skills development where required.
  • Participate in internal quality processes, audits and compliance checks.
  • Maintain and apply current knowledge of awarding body requirements and regulatory frameworks.
  • Attend on-site and off-site events such as careers fairs, school/college engagements and STEM activities.
  • Undertake occasional travel to other academy sites.
  • Carry out any other tasks reasonably aligned to the role.

Person Specification

  • A relevant engineering qualification, or willingness to work towards Level 2 and 3 qualifications.
  • Experience in delivering training (desirable but not essential).
  • Ability to deliver positive outcomes, meet deadlines and manage learner timelines effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for developing apprentices and acting as a positive role model.
  • Good IT literacy.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexibly; a full driving licence is essential.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) — including assessor, teaching, safeguarding or first aid training where required.
  • Willingness to undertake a DBS check.
  • Ability to provide two work‑related references.
