Hawes Down Primary School is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and reliable Play Worker to join our friendly wraparound care team. You will support the delivery of high-quality breakfast and after-school provision, creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children aged 4-11. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and is passionate about play, wellbeing, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage children in a range of play activities (indoor and outdoor)
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at all times
  • Support children’s social, emotional, and physical development through play
  • Serve light meals/refreshments prepared by our catering team in line with food hygiene standards
  • Maintain a clean and organised play space
  • Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and school policies at all times
  • Work positively as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and parents

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working with children (in a school, childcare or play setting) is desirable
  • A positive, energetic, and patient approach
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Ability to engage children in creative and active play

Desirable

  • Relevant childcare qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 in Playwork, Childcare, or similar)
  • First Aid certification
  • Food hygiene certificate
