We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, patient, and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our school team. This role will predominantly involve working on a 1:1 basis with a pupil, although there may also be opportunities to support small group activities when required. The successful candidate will provide tailored support to children with a range of special educational needs, helping them to access learning and fully participate in school life.
Whilst you will be expected to work under the direction of the class teacher, you will also have the ability to use your own initiative to organise tasks and activities; creating simple resources to support the pupil’s work as appropriate. You will work closely with the class teacher and school team as well as the school’s Local SEN lead and the Trust SENCO, as well as working in partnership with external contacts to support learning and development.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with young children with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEND)
- An understanding of physical, sensory, and social communication difficulties
- Knowledge and experience of supporting children with emotional regulation needs, including managing behaviours that may present as challenging
- A calm, nurturing, and consistent approach
- The ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is committed to making a positive difference in a child’s educational journey. At Upminster Infant and Junior Schools, we pride ourselves on our kind, supportive, and caring environment and we provide excellent opportunities for our staff to specialise in areas of SEN learning support.
The position is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
