We are seeking a confident, reliable and adaptable Cover Supervisor and qualified Sports Coach to join our thriving school community. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering pre-set work, maintaining continuity of learning, and managing classrooms effectively across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 during staff absence. This will include both classroom-based lessons across all subjects and practical PE lessons across a wide range of sports.

In addition, the post-holder will play a key role in supporting and developing the school’s extensive extra-curricular sports programme, contributing to clubs, training sessions and competitive fixtures. The successful candidate will provide direction, enthusiasm and vision, while helping to shape students’ core value of “Love as Brethren” in a school where sport is a central part of the ethos and culture.

This role contributes to the department’s objective of delivering an exceptional sporting programme for all students, regardless of ability. The successful candidate will help promote a consistent, inclusive and aspirational environment that encourages participation, teamwork and excellence.

As the number one state school for sport in the country, our extra-curricular programme is at the heart of school life. The department enjoys an enviable regional and national reputation across a wide variety of sports, regularly competing in national finals and securing multiple national titles each year. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly successful department and make a meaningful impact on students’ academic and sporting development.

We enjoy a fine reputation for the quality of our pastoral care and are committed to the professional development of all our staff, as well as innovative teaching and learning strategies. More information on the school can be found on the school website.

The school is a short walk from Upminster station where Overground and Underground services are available; these connect to central London (Fenchurch Street), Romford and all District Line destinations. The school is also a short drive from the M25, A12 and A13.

Interested colleagues are invited to contact Helen Davies (Head of Physical Education and Sport) for an informal chat about the post. Closing date for the receipt of applications is Monday 9th February 2026 at Noon. Interviews will be held shortly afterwards.

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to submit, prior to their interview, a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission of this information, online checks may be carried out.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.
