We are looking to employ a Midday Supervisor to join our enthusiastic and energetic team. This role is for 1.5 hours a day (either 11:30 to 1:00 pm or 11:45 – 1:15 pm). The successful candidate will become part of our MDS team who drive forwards our OPAL lunchtime 'play' provision. The MDS will help manage play zones such as a sand pit or tyre zone and ensure children's play is safe and enjoyable. The MDS will also manage behaviour in line with our school policy using ‘Trauma Perceptive Practice’ and, where needed, use a restorative approach to bring about a positive conclusion to any incident – if they occur.

OPAL is a school improvement programme that we joined, with the aim to strategically and sustainably improve the quality of the play opportunities on offer at our school. We are creating different play zones managed by our parliament group – ‘Healthy Heroes’. This will ultimately improve the quality of our pupils' play both now and for the future.

We would like candidates who have experience in child supervision, play management and behaviour management, and have knowledge of trauma‑informed practice. Candidates must be able to work independently and apply a restorative approach when necessary.

Safeguarding

Havering Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The protection of our pupils from abuse is the responsibility of all staff within our schools, superseding any other considerations. Therefore Havering Schools comply with the Department for Education ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance.

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Shortlisted candidates will be required, prior to their interview, to submit a self‑declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Upon submission, online checks may be carried out. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; the successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from obtaining a position with the School.

Equal Opportunities

Havering Schools aim to promote and ensure equality of opportunity and equal treatment for all. We are committed to equal opportunities in employment regardless of gender, marital status, race, colour, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, responsibility for dependants, religious or political affiliation and trade union activities. All matters related to employment are decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.
