About The Role
The Marine Engineer will play a key role in maintaining the reliability and safety of our company vessels. You will lead on engineering maintenance activities across the fleet, ensuring that all vessels and plant (marine and shoreside) are maintained to a high standard and remain ready to support daily operations. You will take a proactive approach to planned and preventative maintenance, fault finding and repairs, helping to minimise downtime and ensure equipment performs efficiently. Working closely with the wider Marine Team, you will also provide additional support during operations when required, contributing to the safe and effective running of the team. The role requires a strong working knowledge of marine diesel engines, planned maintenance systems and small craft operating procedures. You will demonstrate a commitment to safe working practices, high engineering standards and continuous improvement, while remaining flexible and willing to support the wider team as required.
What You'll Do
- Engineering, maintenance and operational support
- Operate as a sole engineer and manage vessel critical spares and procurement
- Take the lead on all maintenance activities on marine and shoreside plant, whilst demonstrating the ability to accurately report, manage, fault find and solve defects
- Organise support from third parties when required, including vessel coding
- Assist with external and internal audits on company owned vessels
- Take the lead with the maintenance of quayside equipment
- Support general operational activities across the Port as required to maintain safe and efficient operations
- Assist in vessel operations
- Work alongside the vessel skipper and other crew members to ensure company owned vessels are maintained and operated to the highest standards
- Assist with workboat duties
- Assist with the safe mooring and unmooring of vessels visiting the Port
- Handle ropes, lines and associated equipment during vessel berthing and departure operations
- Safety compliance and emergency response
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures to minimise risks and ensure a safe working environment for everyone
- Participate in safety checks, drills and operational procedures to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations including fire, medical incidents and other marine emergencies in accordance with established procedures
- Communication, documentation and reporting
- Maintain clear communication with vessel masters, crew members and port colleagues to coordinate operations effectively
- Maintain accurate operational records, including navigation logs, maintenance records and other relevant documentation
- Assist in the preparation and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) relating to marine and port operations

What We Expect Of You

- Previous sea‑going engineering experience
- A strong understanding of marine diesel engines, auxiliary generator systems, hydraulics and vessel control systems
- Valid STCW qualifications (MCA EOOW, Fishing Class 2 or AEC2)
- A valid ENG1 or ML5 medical
- A full driving licence valid in the UK
- Experience with Volvo engines (desirable)
- A CSCS labourer card (desirable)
- Thrive in a team environment, collaborating effectively with others, sharing knowledge, and contributing to collective success
- Prioritise health and safety in all aspects of your work, proactively identifying risks and ensuring compliance with all regulations to create a safe environment
- Are prepared to work long hours in variable conditions, often in inclement weather conditions and be willing to live onboard company workboats if working away on charters
- Are able to lift heavy objects and work in confined spaces
- Communicate clearly and concisely, whether in writing or verbally, tailoring your message to the audience to ensure understanding and alignment
- Remain positive and composed under pressure, adapting to challenges and maintaining focus to solve any problems which may arise
- Uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethics, making decisions that reflect honesty, transparency, and respect for others
- Have a keen eye for detail and prioritise accuracy, ensuring that instructions are followed and that you are aware of your surroundings
What You Can Expect From Us
- A competitive salary - between ÂŁ52,000 - ÂŁ55,000 depending on your level of experience
