About the role

Are you a detail-focused finance professional looking to make an impact on capital investment? If so, we'd love to hear from you! Haven is looking for a Capex Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team on a 4-month fixed-term contract, supporting our capital expenditure processes across the business.

In this key role, you'll help ensure all capital projects are recorded, tracked, and reported accurately, maintaining the integrity of our financial data and compliance with accounting standards. You'll also take ownership of the month-end accounting for Product & Technology (P&T) contractor expenditure, a significant cost line across the business.

You’ll play a vital part in maintaining the fixed asset register, supporting business partners with financial insights, and contributing to the continual improvement of our reporting systems and processes. It's a fantastic opportunity to broaden your expertise within a collaborative and fast-paced Finance team.

Your Opportunity

  • Monitor and track capital expenditure against approved budgets
  • Review and validate project proposals for financial accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual capex reports
  • Post journals and accruals accurately and on time
  • Account for P&T contractor and Public Liability costs for inclusion in the monthly management accounts
  • Reconcile capex accounts and investigate variances
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation for all capital projects
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards and internal policies
  • Support the capitalisation of assets and maintenance of the fixed asset register
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Contribute to process improvement and automation initiatives

What we'd like you to bring

  • A degree in finance, accounting, or business (or working towards a professional accounting qualification)
  • Experience in financial reporting and capital expenditure accounting
  • Strong Excel skills, including data analysis and financial modelling
  • Familiarity with ERP or financial systems (e.g. SAP, QuickBooks)
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Awareness of relevant accounting standards (e.g. IFRS, FRS 102)
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • Integrity, transparency, and a strong sense of ownership in financial processes
