Haven House Children's Hospice provides specialist care and support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and to their families. We are committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care and to supporting our staff to develop, grow and thrive in a supportive hospice environment.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Nurse to join our Governance and Education clinical team at Haven House. This role is ideal for a nurse who enjoys hands-on clinical practice and has a strong interest in education, quality and governance. You will work a mixture of clinical shifts and protected education/governance shifts, supporting colleagues to develop confidence and competence in caring for children with complex needs, while helping to maintain high standards of safety, learning and regulatory compliance across the hospice.
Main duties
- Clinical practice: You will deliver skilled, compassionate care to babies, children and young people with complex health needs, including those requiring non-invasive ventilation, long-term ventilation and parenteral nutrition. Provide safe tracheostomy, gastrostomy and jejunostomy care, emergency interventions and complex medication administration. You will support children and families through end-of-life and bereavement care, acting as a calm and confident clinical presence and act as a clinical role model, promoting best practice and high professional standards.
- Education and training: You will be responsible for teaching, supervising and assessing staff in complex clinical skills, adapting your approach to meet different learning needs. You will support new starters, students and developing staff through structured learning plans and competency sign-off and maintain accurate records of training, competencies and clinical supervision, ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities.
- Governance and quality: You will contribute to Haven House's governance and quality agenda, including audits, incident reporting, learning dissemination and safeguarding processes. Support policy development, review and implementation and help maintain CQC readiness and promote a culture of safety, reflection and continuous improvement.

Job responsibilities:
The Band 6 Nurse for Education and Governance plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based care for babies, children, and young people accessing hospice services. This role combines advanced clinical practice with teaching, supervision, and governance responsibilities. You will work a mixture of clinical shifts and educator shifts to support the team to consolidate their skills. You will support the development of the clinical team through structured education, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development, and contribute to the hospice's governance framework, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting incident management, and driving continuous improvement across the service.
Key responsibilities:
- Clinical practice: Provide expert clinical care to BCYP with complex health needs, including non-invasive ventilation (NIV), long-term ventilation (LTV), parenteral nutrition (PN), safe tracheostomy, gastrostomy and jejunostomy care, and emergency interventions, IV and subcutaneous medication administration, proficiency in drug administration and complex drug calculations, compassionate end-of-life and bereavement care to children and families, clinical role modelling and promotion of best practice.
- Education & Training: Teach, supervise and assess staff competency in complex clinical skills, adapting teaching styles to meet diverse learning needs. Support new starters, students and less experienced staff through structured learning plans and sign-off processes. Ensure equitable access to learning opportunities and maintain accurate records of training, competency assessments and clinical supervision.
- Governance & Quality: Contribute to the hospice governance agenda, including audits, incident reporting, safeguarding, policy development, and maintaining regulatory compliance (including CQC readiness). Support teams to deliver high-quality care and drive continuous improvement; promote a culture of safety, reflection and accountability.
