Our HR Assistant Apprentice role offers hands‑on experience, professional training and a clear pathway into a rewarding HR career. As a HR Apprentice, you will support recruitment, onboarding, payroll and wellbeing processes while studying for a funded HR qualification. This is not just an admin role - it is a true development opportunity with real responsibility and support. 30 hours per week / 52 weeks per year

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the complete onboarding process for new starters, including reference checks, DBS checks, Right to Work checks and overseas checks.
  • Ensure accurate compliance with Single Central Record requirements.
  • Manage the online DBS portal and provide support to candidates.
  • Ensure a positive and seamless new starter journey, including pre‑employment meetings and one‑month check‑in meetings.
  • Issue contracts and offer letters within statutory timeframes, calculating prorated salaries and leave entitlements.
  • Take an active role in interview panels and supporting recruiting managers.
  • Process payroll changes and generate accurate HR administration paperwork, adhering to payroll cut‑off dates.
  • Record new starters on the HR/Payroll system and process starter pension notifications.
  • Provide administrative support to Business Partners in employee relations cases, including preparing packs and taking minutes.
  • Organise and monitor the exit interview process and ensure efficient completion of leaver processes.

Qualifications

  • A high standard of administrative skill with a keen eye for detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels and build effective relationships
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office packages, e.g. Word, Excel
  • Professional and customer focused approach including absolute discretion, confidentiality, diplomacy and sensitivity
