Kickstart your civil engineering career with a coastal engineering placement. Are you studying civil engineering and looking for hands-on experience that makes a real impact? This is your chance to join a dynamic team tackling coastal flood and erosion risks along the stunning south coast.
Why join us? Coastal Partners works with five local authorities to protect communities and the environment across 246 km of coastline and three major harbours of national importance. As part of our Capital Programme Delivery Team, you’ll gain practical experience on multimillion-pound projects, including the landmark Southsea scheme and works around Portsea Island.
What will you do?
- Get involved in design and construction phases of major coastal projects.
- Supervise works on-site, using total stations and GPS surveying equipment to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Collaborate with our Geomatics Team on topographic surveys.
- Contribute to project management and design for a range of schemes across our portfolio.

We are looking for suitable applicants, currently studying for a civil engineering related degree to undertake a 12-month industrial placement. The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the requirements of an Engineering Technician and be willing to travel to sites within the Partnership area. The post will commence in May/June 2026. Graduates, those not currently studying for a civil engineering related degree, and those who will have completed their studies by the time the placement starts will not be considered for this position.
