An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced R&D Engineer to join a successful manufacturing business on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and development of new products and components, while also driving continuous improvements to existing products. Working closely with production and engineering teams, you will help deliver innovative, reliable and compliant solutions that improve product quality, efficiency and customer value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new products, components and product enhancements.
- Create and maintain product specifications and technical documentation.
- Produce 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Review existing products and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Plan and manage prototype builds and testing programmes.
- Develop and conduct testing for structural integrity, durability and performance.
- Research new materials, manufacturing technologies and industry developments.
- Monitor market trends, competitor products and emerging regulations.
- Identify opportunities for weight reduction, improved durability and cost savings.
- Work closely with production teams to optimise product manufacturability.
- Support the introduction of new products into production.
- Develop jigs, fixtures and manufacturing process improvements.
- Support type approval and homologation activities.
- Contribute to wider R&D and product development projects as required.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an innovative and technically minded engineer with previous experience within a fabrication or manufacturing environment and a passion for product development and continuous improvement.
Essential Criteria
- 3rd level qualification in an Engineering-related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years' experience within a fabrication/manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 2 years' R&D experience.
- Previous experience in a similar R&D/product development role.
- Experience with sheet metal CAD modelling.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and project management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent IT skills, including experience with PLM and MRP systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A creative, methodical and proactive approach to engineering.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience using SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of vehicle type approval/homologation processes.
- Knowledge or experience of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Experience within Lean Manufacturing.
- Experience with GRP/plastics design.
