Job Role: Payroll Officer in OmaghOur client is a well-established and successful organisation with a significant presence across Northern Ireland. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join their finance team. This is a full-time, office-based position reporting directly to the Financial Controller. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely administration and processing of payroll across the organisation.
The Role
- Maintain and update accurate employee payroll records.
- Process new starters and leavers, including P45s, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Monitor and record employee clock-ins and review and correct any anomalies in conjunction with relevant managers.
- Process monthly payroll accurately and within the required deadlines.
- Update payroll for overtime, bonuses, pensions, health insurance and other ad-hoc payments.
- Calculate and process Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) and Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in accordance with individual employee contracts, terms and conditions and relevant statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of sickness and absence.
- Provide monthly sickness and absence reports to HR.
- Monitor and maintain employee holiday records.
- Resolve payroll queries from employees in a professional and timely manner.
- Work closely with HR and management to ensure payroll information is accurate and up to date.
- Provide payroll reports and information to HR and management as required.
- Ensure all payroll records are maintained accurately and securely.
- Carry out general payroll administration and filing.
- Ensure payroll processes comply with relevant legislation and company policies.
- Assist with payroll-related queries and requirements from HMRC and other relevant bodies.
- Keep up to date with changes to payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
- Perform any other payroll-related duties as required by management.
The Successful Candidate
- A minimum of three years' experience in payroll processing, ideally within a medium to large organisation.
- Experience using Sage Payroll and an employee clocking/timekeeping system.
- Experience managing payroll from start to finish.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes, including starters, leavers, P45s, overtime, bonuses, pensions, SSP and SMP.
- Good understanding of payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
- Previous experience working with HR and management on payroll and employee-related matters.
- Relevant payroll or finance qualifications would be desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience using Bizimply or similar timekeeping/employee management software would be preferable.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict payroll deadlines.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential employee and payroll information with discretion.
- A professional, reliable and methodical approach to work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider finance and HR team.
