Our manufacturing client is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will report to the Operations Director and will lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance across the manufacturing facility and construction sites. The role ensures that safe systems of work are in place, risks are controlled, and a positive safety culture is embedded throughout the modular construction process — from design and off‑site fabrication to transport, installation, and on‑site assembly.
Key Responsibilities
- Health & Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s health & safety policies, procedures, and management systems.
- Conduct risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and ensure appropriate control measures are in place for manufacturing and site-based activities.
- Lead accident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety, emergency procedures, and first aid requirements.
- Carry out regular site and factory safety audits, inspections, and toolbox talks.
- Training & Culture
- Deliver health & safety training and inductions to employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Promote a proactive safety culture where employees are engaged and empowered to take responsibility for safe working practices.
- Keep staff updated on changes to legislation, guidance, or company procedures.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., local authorities, environmental agencies) and maintain up-to-date statutory records.
- Prepare and present health & safety performance reports, KPIs, and recommendations to senior management.
- Manage COSHH registers, PPE provision and waste/environmental compliance.
Skills & Qualifications
- Essential: NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) with strong working knowledge of legislation.
- Experience in manufacturing and/or construction environments.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing safety management systems (ISO 45001 desirable).
- Analytical approach to problem-solving and incident investigation.
