Our growing Engineering client is seeking a talented Design Engineer to join their team. This is a key hands-on role responsible for the full design and integration of all components across their product range. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in SolidWorks and possess strong technical knowledge of off-grid electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- 3D Modelling: Produce detailed 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Technical Drawings: Create accurate 2D manufacturing drawings, including BOMs and cut lists.
- Design for Manufacture: Collaborate with production teams to optimise designs for cost, assembly, and manufacturing efficiency.
- System Integration: Specify and integrate electrical and power-generation components.
- Power Analysis: Conduct power calculations, solar yield assessments, and battery sizing for reliable off-grid performance.
- Component Sourcing: Select and evaluate proprietary components to meet performance and regulatory requirements.
- Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs meet relevant industry standards.
- Documentation: Maintain design files, revisions, and technical documentation within the MRP system.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive enhancements in performance, reliability, durability, and cost-efficiency.
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Strong SolidWorks skills (modelling, assemblies, technical drawings).
- Practical knowledge of off-grid power systems (solar PV, batteries, inverters, generators).
- Understanding of fabrication techniques (sheet metal, structural steel, composite panels).
- Familiarity with electrical components, wiring, and low-voltage DC.
- Excellent problem-solving and multi-discipline integration skills.
Desirable Experience
- Designing modular buildings, shelters, vehicles, or enclosures.
- Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of UK/EU/international electrical and building regulations.
