Job Purpose
A PSV Company bus driver is responsible for driving a passenger‑carrying vehicle (PCV) and providing good customer service and a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of HATS buses.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Wear high‑visibility PPE in vehicle movement areas.
- Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.
- Check vehicle condition prior to service: carry out the safety walk‑round check, report any vehicle or equipment defects, complete the Vehicle Defect Card or enter defect on electronic ticket machine.
- Keep vehicle clean and tidy before starting service.
- Comply with laws and company regulations regarding mobile phones, smoking and prohibited equipment.
- Be responsible for the health, safety, security, welfare, environmental and fire safety arrangements; attend safety briefings and training.
- Report all safety accidents/incidents using the company reporting procedure.
- Understand emergency and evacuation plans.
- Maintain bus cab area safe and tidy.
- Provide a high standard of customer service and behave in a friendly professional manner.
- Assist with additional needs of children, vulnerable adults, elderly, infirm or disabled.
- Drive company vehicles safely, legally and professionally.
- Follow timetable: not running early or late when it is safe.
- Stay updated on road closures, diversions or special events; read notices, attend briefings, listen to instructions.
- Hold a valid driving licence and CPC licence at all times and make available for inspection.
- Report for work at correct time and location with correct equipment.
- Follow dress code, not report when overtired or under influence, report absence, report incidents, partake in yearly appraisal and offer improvement ideas.
- Ensure adherence to all HATS policies and procedures and undertake reasonable requests made by the Company.
Required Criteria
- Valid UK (or acceptable other) driver’s licence
- No greater than 6 penalty points
- Good understanding of written and spoken English
- Proven eligibility to work in the UK
- Suitable references available
- Professional driving experience
- Has received 7 hours of DCPC training yearly
- Basic secondary school education or equivalent
- Prepared to undertake training such as NVQ as required
- Ability to drive a vehicle to a competent and safe standard
- Good written and verbal communication skills (English Level 2)
- Valid driver qualification card (CPC)

- Experience with child transport or special educational needs
- Experience with route planning and timetable adherence
- Familiarity with safety regulations and electrical system maintenance

- Working hours: 07:00 – 10:00 and 14:00 – 17:00 daily; 25 hours per week.
