We support various public and private healthcare institutions, delivering over 2,000,000 passenger movements annually.
We have an opportunity for a PSV Company Bus Driver to join our team. The working hours are 07:00–10:00 and 14:00–17:00 daily. This is a 25 hour contract. On-site parking is available.
Job Purpose
A PSV Company bus driver is responsible for driving a passenger-carrying vehicle (PCV), providing good customer service and ensuring a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of HATS buses.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Wear high-visibility PPE in vehicle movement areas.
- Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.
- Check the condition of the vehicle prior to commencing service (safety walk-around).
- Report any defects promptly to the appropriate person and complete the Vehicle Defect Card or enter defects on the electronic ticket machine (location dependent).
- Keep the vehicle clean and tidy before starting service.
- Comply with laws and company regulations regarding mobile phone use, smoking in company vehicles, and use of prohibited equipment (e.g., games consoles) while on duty.
- Maintain health, safety, security, welfare, environmental and fire safety arrangements for yourself, customers and colleagues, including attendance at safety briefings and training as required.
- Report all safety incidents using the company procedures.
- Understand emergency and evacuation plans and keep the cab area safe and tidy.
- Provide a high standard of customer service and assist with additional needs of children and vulnerable adults, the elderly, infirm or disabled.
- Drive to the set timetable, not running early or late, when it is safe to do so; stay informed about road closures and diversions.
- Hold a valid driving licence and CPC licence at all times and have it available for inspection.
Work Environment
- Driver must have a D1 category on their licence (no restrictions) and a valid CPC licence for the vehicle type driven.
- Licence medical renewals up to date; inform line manager of any changes affecting entitlement to drive.
- Licence available for inspection at 6-month intervals.
- Report for work at the correct time and location with the correct equipment; observe company dress code.
- Avoid reporting for work when overtired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Follow relevant notification procedures for absence; report safety, security, driving and customer service incidents promptly.
- Participate in yearly appraisal and provide feedback for service improvements.
- Adhere to all HATS policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Valid UK (or acceptable alternative) driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Proven eligibility to work in the UK.
- Ability to provide suitable references.
- Ability to prove identity and hold PCV/PSV driving licence.
- Professional driving experience.
- DCPC training completed each year (minimum 7 hours).
- Basic secondary education or equivalent.
- Willingness to undertake training (e.g., NVQ) as required.
- Ability to drive safely and competently; good communication skills in English (ESOL level 2).
