Job purpose: A Private Hire Company Driver is responsible for driving a passenger-carrying vehicle, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring a safe and comfortable journey across HATS\’ home-to-school services.

About The Role
Main duties:
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Wear high visibility PPE in vehicle movement areas.
- Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.
Check the condition of the vehicle prior to commencing service by:
- Carrying out the safety walk-round check.
- Reporting any vehicle or equipment defects promptly.
- Completing the Vehicle Defect Card or entering defects on the electronic ticket machine.
- Ensuring the vehicle is clean and tidy before starting service.
Ensure compliance with laws and company regulations, including mobile phone use, smoking, and prohibited equipment during duty.
Be responsible for health, safety, security, welfare, environmental, and fire safety arrangements for yourself, customers, and colleagues, including attending safety briefings and training.
Report all safety incidents following company procedures and understand emergency and evacuation plans.
Maintain a safe and tidy bus cab area and provide high standards of customer service, including informing customers of road closures or diversions.
Behave professionally and friendly towards customers and colleagues, and assist vulnerable groups as needed.
Drive company vehicles safely, legally, and professionally, adhering to set timetables when safe to do so, and stay updated on road conditions and service disruptions.
Hold a valid driving license and Person PCO License at all times, available for inspection.
Driver Requirements:
- Valid driverβs license and Private Hire license for the vehicle type.
- Up-to-date medical renewals.
- Report any changes affecting driving entitlement.
- Availability for inspection every 6 months.
- Report to work on time with the correct equipment and dress code.
- Avoid working when overtired or under influence of substances.
- Follow notification procedures for absences and report incidents promptly.
- Participate in annual appraisals and provide service improvement ideas.
- Adhere to all HATS policies and procedures and undertake reasonable requests.
Work Environment
The role involves flexible working hours, primarily between 07:00 – 09:00 and 14:30 β 16:30, with additional hours as needed. The job is mainly outdoors, requiring safe and efficient operation in all weather and traffic conditions.
