Job Purpose
A PCO owner car driver is responsible for driving their own passenger‑carrying vehicle and providing good customer service and a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of HATS home‑to‑school services.

Main Duties
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Ensure high‑visibility PPE is always worn in vehicle movement areas.
- Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.
- Check vehicle condition prior to commencing service: keep vehicle clean and tidy.
- Comply with laws and regulations regarding mobile phones, smoking, prohibited equipment while on duty.
- Be responsible for health, safety, security, welfare, environmental and fire safety arrangements for self, customers and colleagues.
- Attend safety briefings and training as required.
- Report all safety accidents/incidents to the company.
- Understand emergency and evacuation plans.
- Keep cab area safe and tidy.
- Provide high standard of customer service, including giving passengers information and informing of road closures and diversions.
- Behave friendly and professionally with customers and colleagues.
- Recognise and assist with additional needs of children and vulnerable adults, the elderly, infirm or disabled.
- Drive vehicle safely, legally, professionally and on timetable.
- Stay up‑to‑date with road closures, diversions and special events that affect service.
- Hold valid driving licence, vehicle PCO and Person PCO Licence at all times.
Driver Must Ensure That
- The driver\’s licence, vehicle PCO and Person PCO Licence are valid for the vehicle type being driven.
- Licence has required medical renewals up to date.
- Any change to licence that may affect entitlement to drive is communicated to the line manager.
- Licence is made available for inspection every six months.
- Report for work at correct time and location with correct equipment.
- Observe company dress code when on duty.
- Avoid work when overtired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Follow notification procedures for absence from work.
- Report all safety, security, driving and customer service incidents to line manager promptly.
- Report road incidents that may affect service promptly.
- Provide feedback on service improvements.
- Adhere to all HATS policies and procedures.
- Undertake reasonable requests made by the Company.
Work Environment
Flexible working hours with core hours 07:00‑09:00 and 14:30‑16:30. Additional work as needed. Work is predominantly outdoor on the own PCO vehicle, transporting clients safely in all weather and road conditions.
