A PCO company driver is responsible for driving a passenger-carrying vehicle and providing good customer service and a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of HATS home-to-school services.

Pay Structure: Paid an Hourly Rate
Main Duties:
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Ensure that high visibility PPE is always worn in vehicle movement areas.
- Ensure that speed limits are observed within bus depots and school premises.
- Check the condition of the vehicle prior to commencing service.
- Carry out a safety walk round check.
- Report any defect in the vehicle or equipment as soon as possible to the right person.
- Complete the Vehicle Defect Card or enter the defect on the electronic ticket machine (depending on location).
- Ensure that the vehicle is clean and tidy before starting service.
- Comply with laws and company regulations regarding mobile phone use, smoking in company vehicles, and the use of prohibited equipment while on duty.
- Be responsible for health, safety, security, welfare, environmental and fire safety arrangements for yourself, customers, and colleagues.
- Attend safety briefings and training as required.
- Report all safety accidents/incidents following the company’s reporting procedure.
- Understand emergency and evacuation plans.
- Keep the bus cab area always safe and tidy.
- Provide a high standard of customer service.
- Give customers on the bus information that may help them during their journey (e.g., informing customers of road closures and diversions).
- Behave in a friendly and professional manner to customers and colleagues.
- Recognize and assist with the additional needs of children, vulnerable adults, the elderly, infirm or disabled.
- Drive company vehicles safely, legally, and professionally.
- Drive to the timetable, not running early or late when safe.
- Stay up to date with road closures, diversions, or special events that may affect the service.
- Maintain a valid driving licence and Person PCO Licence at all times and available for inspection.
A Driver Must Ensure That:
- Licence and Person PCO licence are in date, valid, and suitable for vehicle type.
- Licence has required medical renewals up to date.
- Any change to licence that may affect entitlement to drive is communicated to line manager.
- Licence made available for inspection every 6 months.
- Report for work at correct time and location with correct equipment.
- Observe company dress code correctly at all times on duty.
- Do not report for work when overtired or under influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Follow notification procedures when absent from work.
- Report all safety, security, driving and customer service incidents promptly to line manager.
- Report all road incidents that could affect service promptly.
- Participate in yearly appraisal.
- Feedback ideas for service improvement to line manager.
- Adhere to all HATS policies and procedures.
- Undertake any reasonable request by company.
Work Environment:
- Work in flexible hours; core hours 07:00‑09:00 and 14:30‑16:30.
- Undertake additional work as service needs dictate.
- Follow instructed daily and weekly schedules and report incidents or problems to Controller.
- Day‑to‑day work is predominantly outdoors on vehicles transporting clients.
- Work safely and efficiently in all weather, traffic, and road conditions.
