We have an opportunity for a Passenger Assistant to join our team. The working hours you will need to be available for the role on a daily basis are from 07:00 - 10:00 and then 14:00 - 17:00. This is a 16 hour contract.

Role purpose: To escort and assist clients with special needs, board and alight vehicles in their daily journey to and from home, school, centre or other destinations as directed.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
  • Assist passengers to board and alight vehicles using appropriate means, including physically assisting passengers with severe disabilities.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with the Controller regarding any problems related to the transport of a client.
  • Apply health and safety standards to ensure the welfare of clients.
  • Be responsible along with the driver for ensuring the vehicle is clean and tidy at all times.
  • Participate in working flexible hours as needed.
  • Report to the Controller where incidents or problems occur.
  • Work in a predominately outdoor environment on vehicles that transport clients.

Daily Functions:

  • Operating and using appropriate techniques and equipment e.g. tail lifts, seating restraints.
  • Health and safety/manual handling activities e.g. pushing, lifting, carrying and supporting clients.
  • Assistance with dressing and emergency toileting may be required for identified clients.

Variations and Work Context: Duties depend on service user needs, including special needs, types of transport operating, and numbers and ages of service users.

Role and Contacts: The role has contact with parents, guardians, carers, attendants, teachers, centre organisers, Council Staff and other HATS employees.
