A PSV Company bus driver is responsible for driving a passenger‑carrying vehicle (PCV) and providing excellent customer service and a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of HATS buses.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Wear high‑visibility PPE in vehicle movement areas.
- Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.
- Perform pre‑service vehicle checks – safety walk round, defect reporting, defect card completion, and vehicle cleanliness.
- Comply with company regulations regarding mobile phone use, smoking, and prohibited equipment.
- Report safety accidents/incidents and emergency/evacuation plans; keep the bus cab area safe and tidy.
- Provide a high standard of customer service, including informing passengers of road closures, diversions and other relevant information.
- Behave friendly and professional to customers and colleagues, recognising and assisting passengers with additional needs.
- Drive the vehicle safely, legally and professionally; adhere to timetables and maintain punctuality.
- Maintain a valid D1 category licence, CPC licence, and up‑to‑date medical renewals; make licence available for inspection.
- Report absences, incidents and other relevant matters to the line manager promptly; participate in yearly appraisal and policy adherence.
- Work flexible hours, with core times between 07:00‑09:00 and 14:30‑16:30, and undertake additional work as service demands.
Work Environment and Safety
- Hold a D1 licence with a valid CPC licence and no restrictions; keep medical renewals current.
- Report any licence changes affecting driving entitlement to the line manager.
- Provide licence for inspection every six months.
- Arrive on time with correct equipment and observe the company's dress code.
- Do not report for work when overtired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Follow notification procedures for absences from work.
- Report all safety, security, driving and customer service incidents to the line manager as soon as possible.
- Participate in yearly appraisal and provide feedback for service improvement.
- Adhere to all HATS policies and procedures and undertake reasonable requests made by the company.
Required Criteria
- Valid current UK (or acceptable other) driver’s licence.
- No greater than 6 penalty points.
- Good understanding of written and spoken English.
- Proven eligibility to work in the UK.
- References available.
- Professional driving experience.
- Received 7 hours of DCPC training each year.
- Basic secondary school education or equivalent.
- Prepared to undertake further training such as NVQ as required.
- Ability to drive a vehicle to a competent and safe standard.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid Driver Qualification Card (CPC).
- Valid Tacho Card.
