We are recruiting for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join a local government finance team based in Birkenhead. This is a great opportunity for someone with solid financial reporting and monitoring experience to contribute to a key public service, while gaining valuable exposure in a well-established finance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports
- Monitor and maintain financial performance alongside non-finance colleagues
- Analyse data and provide insights to support decision-making
- Assist with year-end financial processes and compliance activities
- Ensure financial controls are upheld and support system/process improvements
- Work collaboratively across the team to deliver timely, accurate financial information
Requirements
Essential:
- Part-qualified (AAT or similar) or equivalent financial experience
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and budgetary control
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems
- Effective communicator with the ability to support non-financial stakeholders
- Proven experience in a financial monitoring/reporting role
Desirable:
- Previous experience in local government finance
