Job Description
Service Manager – Housing Options
Local Government Organisation
An experienced and strategic Service Manager is required to lead the Housing Options and Partnerships service for a local authority. This is a three-month contract with the potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of high-quality housing advice and homelessness prevention services
- Ensure statutory homelessness and rehousing duties are met
- Oversee housing allocations, lettings, and temporary accommodation management
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation within Housing Options services
- Lead, motivate, and develop a large team (circa 150 FTEs) across multiple housing functions
- Manage budgets and resources to ensure value for money and effective service delivery
- Build strong partnerships with Registered Providers, private landlords, and external agencies
- Represent Housing at multi-agency forums and contribute to wider housing strategies
- Act as deputy for the Head of Strategic Housing and Partnerships as required
- Support the development and implementation of homelessness and housing support strategies
Essential Experience and Skills
- Proven track record in managing homelessness and housing options services
- In-depth knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing policy, and best practice
- Strong leadership and staff management experience within a complex environment
- Skilled in strategic planning, performance management, and service transformation
- Experience managing operational budgets and contracts
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and partnership-building skills
- Qualification in Housing or equivalent professional experience
