The Opportunity
A great chance to join a busy Environmental Services team working with Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. We're looking to fill 3 General Operative positions supporting the local refuse collection and street cleansing operation - ideal if you enjoy hands-on, outdoor work and being part of a hardworking crew.
Shift pattern: 06:00-14:00, 37 hours weekly
Start date: 31 August 2026
Work base: Unit 5 Blaris Industrial Estate, Altona Road, Lisburn, BT27 5QB
Pay: £13.69/hr PAYE
Day-to-day tasks:
- Manual sweeping and litter picking across roads, footpaths, and public areas
- Collecting household and commercial waste on scheduled rounds
- Handling bulky waste collections and clearing fly-tipped/illegally dumped material
- Assisting with gritting and snow clearance during winter months
- Acting as a point of contact between the crew and supervisors on shift
- Filling out job sheets and daily paperwork correctly
- Representing the Council professionally when dealing with the public
- Sticking to health & safety procedures and wearing correct PPE at all times
We'd like you to have:
- A minimum of 12 months' hands-on manual work experience
- Background in waste collection, refuse work, or street cleansing is a bonus
- Some awareness of safe waste handling practices
- A flexible, team-focused attitude
- The right to work in the UK
