Main Responsibilities
The Caretaker will play a key role in ensuring that Council buildings are safe, secure, and fully operational for staff, Members, and visitors. Duties will include:
- Building Operations & Security: Ensuring buildings are prepared and secure for daily use. Carrying out opening, closing, and security arrangements. Monitoring staff car parks and validating staff passes.
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Conducting checks on fire and alarm systems, assisting with fire evacuations. Completing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks, including monthly tap temperature testing and emergency lighting checks.
- Facilities & Maintenance: Undertaking basic maintenance and repair tasks using light hand tools. Meeting and liaising with contractors and engineers on site. Maintaining stocks and provisions across Council buildings.
- Support Services: Carrying out portering duties as required. Preparing meeting rooms and ensuring equipment is functional. Supporting ceremonial occasions and attending to the Sheriff, Lord Mayor, or Mayor when required.
- Other Duties: Undertake any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Account Manager or Workplace Solutions Supervisor, consistent with the role and within the borough of Cheshire West and Chester.
