Hatched Recruitment Group is delighted to be working exclusively with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to recruit an experienced HR Business Partner to join their Corporate Services team on a temporary basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for an HR professional to join a busy, fast-paced local authority HR department, providing expert generalist advice across employee relations, recruitment, attendance management and casework.

The Role

  • As HR Business Partner, you'll act as a trusted advisor to managers across an assigned directorate, supporting them through the full range of people management issues.
  • Provide proactive, specialist HR advice on policies, procedures, terms and conditions and employment law.
  • Support managers through discipline, grievance, attendance management, dignity at work and capability processes.
  • Take the lead on recruitment activity, including chairing selection panels and advising on current legislation.
  • Manage employee relations casework from start to finish, including confidential record-keeping.
  • Liaise with trade unions and staff representatives through local consultation mechanisms.
  • Support Freedom of Information and Data Protection request responses.
  • Provide cover for the HR Manager on a rotational basis.
  • Represent the Council at Employment Tribunals where required.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in a generalist HR Business Partner or HR Advisor role.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law, HR policy and best practice.
  • Confident handling complex employee relations casework independently.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, ideally including experience working with trade unions.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

What's on Offer

  • Rate: £21.24 per hour (PAYE).
  • Hours: 36 hours per week.
  • Contract: 52 weeks, temporary.
  • Start date: 1 September 2026.
  • Location: Downshire Civic Centre, Ardglass Road, Downpatrick, BT30 6GQ.
  • Weekly pay.
  • Holiday accrued in line with statutory entitlement.
  • Pension auto-enrolment (subject to eligibility).
