Recycling Operatives (x2) - Temporary | Belfast City Council Ormeau Road, Belfast BT7 3GG £14.35 per hour (PAYE) 37 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern, including weekends Starting Monday 19 October 2026 Hatched Recruitment Group is recruiting two Recycling Operatives to join Belfast City Council's Waste Management team at a busy recycling centre in south Belfast. You'll help members of the public dispose of their waste safely and correctly, while keeping the site clean, safe and running smoothly. What you'll be doing: Advising and helping members of the public to separate and dispose of recyclable and hazardous materials Making sure only permitted waste is accepted and stored correctly Controlling access and keeping visitors safe on site Keeping the site clean, including dealing with spills and leaks Recording waste removed from site and entering data on council systems Operating compaction and skip-moving equipment Carrying out daily health and safety and fire safety checks Opening and closing the site, and gritting in icy weather What you'll need: Either two GCSEs (A-C) including English or equivalent with at least 1 year's experience in each of the areas below, or at least 2 years' experience in each of these areas: working in a similar role in a waste management environment giving advice and guidance to customers face-to-face every day Good communication skills, including handling difficult situations calmly Good health and safety awareness Basic record-keeping skills Flexibility to work a rotating shift pattern, including weekends What's on offer: £14.35 per hour, paid weekly Holiday pay accrued in line with statutory entitlement Pension auto-enrolment (subject to eligibility) The chance to work with one of Northern Ireland's largest public sector employers You must be eligible to work in the UK.
