Role overview:
You will be joining the Alternative Pricing Team. This role sits at the heart of our portfolio management, combining portfolio stewardship, underwriting analytics, and performance oversight. You will act as the gatekeeper for our modelled market segments ensuring we understand where we are outperforming, underperforming, or simply tracking on target. Your core responsibility (and your team) is to analyse portfolio risk using loss ratios and supporting KPIs, turning performance insights into clear recommendations that shape portfolio decisions. You will collaborate closely with modellers and pricing teams, providing the intelligence they need to refine pricing strategies and optimise underwriting models. A naturally curious and self-driven individual will thrive here. You’ll proactively explore emerging trends, challenge assumptions, and communicate your insights in a way that helps set strategic direction. The role also plays an essential part in ensuring alignment with underwriting governance and our company’s 4Cs culture.
Accountabilities:
- Developing & delivering new insight, including the integration of new data, new analytical techniques and new ways of evaluating the performance of the portfolio.
- Provide data-driven insight to modellers and pricing teams to inform rate adjustments and model improvements.
- Communicate findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels and help shape the strategic pathways for growth.
- Leading Risk Selection projects & project teams to generate value for the wider business.
- Ensure that you are meeting customers’ fair and reasonable expectations and provide fair outcomes.
- Question and challenge peers and managers where processes and procedures do not meet these expectations and any activity that does not place customers’ interests at the heart of how we do business.
- Ensure completion of all training as mandated by the company and regulated by the FCA.
- Ensure that direct reports and self, achieve and demonstrate levels of competence required to fulfil job requirement.
Essential skills/experience:
- 3-5 years in Pricing/UW role in insurance.
- Comfortable working with numerical/statistical data.
- Good skills in use of statistical/data manipulation packages (preferred) with aptitude for building advanced skills.
- Pro-active approach to driving change.
- Critically evaluates information.
- Good communication skills, written and verbal.
- Confidence to express opinions / challenge.
- Pricing/analytics experience in the financial services.
- Good knowledge of Insurance market.
