As a key member of the wider home pricing and underwriting team you will lead the account management team and form long-term views of profitability to set pricing levels that balance growth and profitability over the long term.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of approximately 4–5 colleagues, creating a collaborative environment that enables everyone to perform at their best.
  • Judge the long-term profitability of the home portfolios and recommend base rates that balance growth and profitability using various tools and projection methods (including considering the long-term impact of weather).
  • Analyse data sources (including internal loss data and industry data) to form views on home claims inflation; liaise closely with the claims team to align views across teams.
  • Create forecasted views of expected frequency and severity by peril, accounting for volatile loss elements such as large losses and weather.
  • Develop claims to ultimate to form views on the profitability of the business we have written historically and are now writing today.
  • Work closely with the Actuarial and Data Science teams to use loss cost models to form views on pricing strength.
  • Track reinsurance spend and feed into strategies to reduce reinsurance costs as a proportion of premium.
  • Monitor day-to-day conversion and proactively make recommendations on growth levels based on market conditions and internal profitability views.
  • Collaborate with risk pricing to quantify the impact of recent price changes on profitability of emerging written business.
  • Oversee the creation of dashboards and automated reports to ensure timely, relevant information for decision making.
  • Report profitability and trading performance to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Serve as main point of contact for home performance for several internal teams including claims, reserving and finance; collaborate well with colleagues from own team and other teams.

Qualifications

  • Enjoys leading a team and creating a working environment in which colleagues can thrive; capable of turning data into insights and articulating the "so what" of what the data indicates.
  • Strong ability to present findings to other areas of the business; comfortable working with and analysing numerical/statistical data.
  • Experience of developing claims to ultimate and understanding the pros and cons of different techniques used for this.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal; confidence to express thoughts and views.
  • Good knowledge of the personal lines insurance market preferred, but other backgrounds will be considered.
