Role overview
Working as part of the Data and MI team within the Alternative Pricing Department (APP), you will be maintaining, designing and enhancing our live pricing code. This code is very important for the team, as it is run thousands of times a day to provide live quotes to prospective customers that connect online to get a quote from Hastings Direct.
Accuracy and attention to detail are therefore extremely important, and ability to code confidently too. The role involves the management of multiple deployments per month, and includes the development of tools and reports to ensure that the code has the desired effect from a business perspective.
The overall aim is to help support the significant growth plans for Advantage Insurance and Hastings Direct, and help differentiate us by being data and analytics leaders in the UK general insurance market.
Job details
- The primary focus of this role is to maintain, design and enhance or live pricing code within our Alternative Pricing Department.
- This code is extremely important to the team as it runs thousands of times a day to provide live quotes to our prospective customers online.
- As a Software Developer, you will find yourself managing multiple deployments per month, including the development of tools and reports to ensure that the code has the desired effect from a business perspective.
- At the outset, you will follow guidance from senior management regarding deployments and be flexible in your approach but you will then be expected to work with a great degree of autonomy.
Essential skills/experience:
- Due to the importance of our live pricing code, we require someone who has a great deal of attention to detail and experience in a software development role.
- We are also seeking a confident coder, Python skills are a necessity. The team also utilises Github so exposure to this would be ideal but we feel we can teach you this on the job.
- As previously mentioned, we often work on short deployment windows so we are looking for someone who can handle quick turnaround times.
- Being able to work autonomously is also a huge part of the role, so someone who can work accurately and independently with little supervision is desirable.
- A pre-existing knowledge of the UK Motor Insurance industry is ideal but not required.
