We’re a digital insurance provider with ambitious plans to become the best and biggest in the UK market. We’ve made huge investments in our pricing and data capabilities over the past few years, along with nurturing our 4Cs culture.

The role involves leading an experienced function of Data Scientists and Actuaries responsible for the models that underpin our pricing decisions. Your remit will span models deployed into live pricing, offline profitability models and the feeder models that support them.

You’ll set and deliver a clear technical pricing strategy, promoting innovation and the responsible adoption of emerging techniques and technologies. Your goal will be to advance our modelling capability, improve the quality and speed of decision-making and position Hastings at the forefront of the industry.

Where you will make a difference:

  • Setting the vision, strategy and roadmap for Technical Pricing, aligned to our underwriting and growth ambitions.
  • Attract, develop, motivate and retain a high-performing team of Data Scientists and Actuaries, including leaders of teams.
  • Lead the design and delivery of robust models for live pricing, profitability assessment and the supporting technical pricing ecosystem.
  • Partner across Underwriting and the wider business to improve risk prediction, reduce cross-subsidisation and support fair customer outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Claims and Account Management so operational change, emerging experience and portfolio insight are reflected in forward-looking models.

What we’re looking for:

  • A proven senior leader in technical pricing, predictive modelling, actuarial science, data science or a closely related discipline, ideally within general insurance or another complex, highly regulated sector.
  • Extensive experience developing and applying predictive models in commercial settings, with a strong command of probability, statistics and numerical analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of actuarial practice, including the calibration of models to ultimate claims experience.
  • Experience leading managers and specialist teams, with a track record of building capability, setting direction and delivering through others.
  • Experience overseeing work delivered using Python and an informed appreciation of emerging generative AI techniques.
  • A pragmatic, outcome-focused approach, with the judgement to balance innovation, pace, governance and model risk.

The journey with us:

  • Initial conversation with our recruiter.
  • Introductory discussion with the hiring leader.
  • Case study interview with the hiring leader.
  • Final conversation with a senior leader.

What we offer:

  • Alongside a competitive salary and £6,000 car allowance, you’ll receive a comprehensive reward and wellbeing package.
  • Flexible working – a flexible hybrid approach; speak with your recruiter about what could work for you and the role.
  • Annual bonus – eligibility for our annual 4Cs performance bonus.
  • Physical wellbeing – as a Band 5 colleague, Hastings pay for you to receive private medical Insurance (also known as PMI).
  • Financial wellbeing – providing you with 4x your salary with our life assurance cover, income protection at no extra cost, and matched pension contributions up to 10%.
  • Mental wellbeing programme – we have the thrive mental health app, our colleague assistance programme available 24/7, and support groups.
  • 27 days annual leave + bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell one of your weeks.
  • Access to our health care cash back plans, dental plans, discounted health assessments, Cycle to work and tech schemes, and social events throughout the year.

As a Disability Confident employer, we’re committed to ensuring our recruitment processes are fully inclusive. We also welcome applications through the Disability Confident Scheme (DCS).

Join us and you’ll find a different way of doing things. We call it the 4Cs: getting it right for our colleagues, customers, company and community. You’ll have the support, development and freedom to lead meaningful change while helping us grow profitably and sustainably.

If you’re excited by the opportunity to shape a market-leading technical pricing function and bring together people, data and technology to make better decisions, we’d love to hear from you.

Hastings Group is an equal opportunities employer which means we treat people fairly. We welcome applications from all suitably skilled persons regardless of their gender, age, race, disability, ethnic background, religion/belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or marital/family status.
